Artist Process

I paint with thin layers of acrylic paint using many of the same techniques and tools that are used in faux finishing.  More often than not, non-traditional painting tools are used.  My objective is to catch that place between color field painting and landscape painting.

The primary thought that echoes in my mind as I paint is “what would happen if….”.  It’s a thought that creates an environment with few boundaries.  Shapes and textures slowly surface as I continue to ask and answer the question that is an integral part of my painting, “what would happen if…”.

Biography

With ten years of experience as a decorative painter in San Francisco, CA, Lori Latham moved to Portland, OR in 1996.  Searching for a different style of painting, her work evolved to abstract landscapes.  She uses many of the techniques and tools in the decorative painting field and incorporates them into her abstract landscape paintings.

Lori's paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to gallery representation Lori's work has also been exhibited at the annual Sitka Center for Art and Ecology Invitational Show, the annual LOCAL14 Art Show and Sale, and the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts Jurried and Invitaional Show.

Lori Latham is committed to supporting local art organizations, and has held board positions with Portland Open Studios, LOCAL14, and the Arts and Crafts Fair in Lake Oswego.
